The Black Business Association celebrates
National Women's History Month

March is Women’s History Month and in collaboration with the National Women’s History Project’s (NWHP) 2019 theme: “Visionary Women: Champions of Peace & Nonviolence,” the Black Business Association (BBA) will present our annual Salute to Black Women Business Conference/Expo & Awards Luncheon.

This inspiring Business Conference and Awards Luncheon not only educates and motivates attendees, but annually attracts more than 500 women entrepreneurs, executives, community leaders, elected officials, mothers, daughters and sisters for high-level networking. We are especially proud of one of the highlights of the conference, our special workshop entitled, “Role Models for Success,” an interactive workshop for young ladies ages 13-18 years old to learn about business ownership from successful women entrepreneurs and corporate leaders.

The EXPO provides our Corporate Sponsors, member businesses and participants the opportunity to network with consumers. Participants may display, market and offer their company service(s) and/or product(s) for sale.

Stay tuned here for announcements of our 2019 honorees.

We look forward to seeing you Saturday, March 30, 2019!

10th Council District Women’s Steering Committee

“Outstanding Community Based Organization”
In October 1973, Los Angeles Tenth District City Councilman David Cunningham and his Chief of Staff Maxine Waters gave Council Deputy Geneva Cox the assignment of bringing together a cross-section of women from throughout the 10th Council District to discuss programs for women in the district. Noted caterer Frankie Bell volunteered her home and provided lunch for the meeting, which was held on March 16, 1974. Committees were appointed to implement the organization of women's group, a body that subsequently became the 10th Council District Women's Steering Committee.

Under the leadership of Geneva Cox, the first conference, "Women in Leadership - How We Can Best Serve Our Community-Woman: A Catalyst for Social Change" was held at City Hall in September 1974. The conference was designed for women who wished to develop skills as professionals or volunteers in schools, community, government, and private industry.

The 10th District Council Women’s Steering Committee was incorporated as a 501 c (3) non-profit organization on January 3, 1979, under the Secretary of State of California, March Fong Eu. Conferences were held at Los Angeles City Hall annually until 1989 when an earthquake limited the use of City Hall. The 10th District Council Women’s Steering Committee then started holding seminars and workshops in various facilities in the 10th District and throughout the City.

Over the years the 10th District Women’s Steering Committee has held informative workshops, seminars, field trips, cultural affairs, theatre parties, Easter Egg hunts, Christmas parties and toy giveaways, as well as having provided scholarships and networked with other women's groups, civic, religious, and political organizations.
